Stephen Robb
is an emerging, designer and Goldsmith. He is currently undertaking a degree in fine art at RMIT University. Stephen is now Melbourne based, though he originally comes from Mittagong, a country town in NSW noted for the famous Sturt Workshops.
Stephen takes his inspiration from many different subjects. Chiefly the natural environment, issues in the media and the human body. Anatomy is a near constant underlying theme in his objects and designs. Stephen says; “My father is a Chiropractor. Whilst growing up, I was surrounded by posters of x-rays and charts displaying the human body. I think this strong influence is why anatomical shapes occur in my work, usually subconsciously”.
Stephen constructs his pieces predominantly from metal, often in conjunction with contemporary or juxtaposed materials not often found in traditional western jewellery. The colour of metals and their lustres are a keen point of interest for him.
Stephen says his current mission is to bring jewellery to the men of Australia.
